No.9: Contemporary Art and the Environment, Metrolinx and Toronto-based artists Jennifer Marman and Daniel Borins present Art Train Conductor No.9, a moving, mobile public art project. From June to December 2012, GO riders can experience Art Train Conductor No.9, which will operate on various corridors of the GO Transit Greater Toronto and Hamilton area networks. The project was originally conceived as a facet of MOVE: Transportation Expo taking place at the Evergreen Brick Works this summer.
The train will cover the entire GO network by the end of its five-month run. The exterior features an abstract, brightly coloured vinyl wrap, while inside, posters and ceiling vinyl have a similar look and feel to the exterior graphic.
GO riders and the greater public are encouraged to engage in a discussion about sustainable public transit using a special mobile app called tetAtet, created in consultation with PhD students at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Information. tetAtet can be downloaded by scanning QR codes on the train's interior, or from Google Play (on your phone, search for tetAtet). tetAtet features video clips of a cross-section of diverse and informed individuals discussing transit issues - and so does this website.

tetAtet features video clips of a cross-section of diverse and informed individuals from the greater Toronto region and beyond. Notable participants include author Margaret Atwood, architect Bruce Kuwabara, Spacing editor Shawn Micallef and transportation expert Eric Miller. Video subjects range from public transit, to urban planning, the environment and many more inspiring ideas.
New video content will be introduced weekly to ignite discussion around urban planning, transit issues, environmental concerns and similar topics. tetAtet will promote commuter interaction via an integrated Twitter feed. The goal of the project is to bring awareness to issues of mobility and to promote public transportation in the greater Toronto and Hamilton area - through the transformation of a public service for mobility, into a forum for public debate.
